These appointments are one-on-one clinical pilates sessions on the pilates reformer with one of our pelvic floor-trained physiotherapists. They will include a thorough assessment and exercise session and may be combined with other physiotherapy treatments during a single session. We strive to design an individualized rehabilitation program that focuses on each patient’s functional goals. Clinical pilates is billed to extended health benefits as physiotherapy.

Clinical Pilates is beneficial for clients during pregnancy and postpartum as well as clients with pelvic floor concerns, postural pain, back pain, neck pain and other acute or long-standing musculoskeletal injuries or conditions. It is also excellent for treating persistent pain as it involves a focus on breathwork and ease of movement, while still taking into account a patient’s injuries or limitations.

Shannon is an open and direct person who loves embracing the difficult aspects of pelvic health conditions with humor and empathetic care. She has been treating pelvic health conditions exclusively since 2020 and started her practice in Northern BC where she was the only full-time pelvic physio for a 500km radius. Those experiences have provided her with the competence to manage complex medical and personal situations with confidence.

Her approach focuses on empowerment through knowledge and understanding to generate meaningful and lasting change. She has found that the most significant recovery comes through a personal understanding of the body, the past that has brought you here, and your priorities for your future.

Shannon came to the physical therapy profession through personal experiences with chronic pain leading her to graduate from UBC in 2017. She has a special interest in helping those with pelvic and sexual pain, loves supporting the perinatal population, and is happy to support all people in their pelvic health goals.

Shannon grew up in the Comox Valley and is glad to return and care for her community. Outside work, you may find Shannon mountain biking, backcountry skiing and generally enjoying the spectacular west coast with friends and family.

Loves to work with: Stress incontinence, Pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain and low back pain, Prenatal education and pelvic floor prep

Melina graduated from the University of British Columbia for both her Bachelor of Kinesiology and Master of Physical Therapy degrees, and has worked in a variety of settings ever since. She relocated to the Comox Valley a few years ago after working in Vancouver and on the Sunshine Coast.

Melina started training to include women’s health and pelvic floor-specific work in her practice after hearing many of her patients’ concerns around lumbopelvic pain, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and painful intercourse. She has completed extensive training in these specific areas in order to educate and empower her patients, and to help them return to the activities they love the most.

Melina’s background is diverse and includes general orthopedics, sport injuries and geriatrics, and much of her previous experience involved clinical pilates as a treatment modality. She finds this to be a great tool to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and returning to regular exercise, particularly for pregnant and postpartum patients.

On top of pelvic floor and women’s health work, Melina enjoys working with the general population for any aches and pains that may come up. Melina uses a variety of techniques to help relieve pain and improve function, including therapeutic exercise, dry needling, and manual therapy. She is passionate about helping her patients understand how pain works, and the various ways in which they can advocate for themselves as part of their treatment.

In her spare time, you can find Melina mountain biking or running in the Cumberland trails, skiing at Mount Washington, or planning her next travel adventure!

Loves to work with: Urge incontinence, Postpartum strengthening, Prenatal education and pelvic floor prep

Crystal’s excitement and interest for women’s health began during her physiotherapy schooling in Australia as she witnessed the many benefits of immediate postpartum education and treatment by physiotherapists in hospital after delivery. After the birth of her two boys, she had a more personal understanding of the need for pelvic floor rehab as she was experiencing her own treatable symptoms.

As a physiotherapist, Crystal is excited about how much we can do for women experiencing a wide array of pelvic floor symptoms not only pre and post partum but as we age. She is eager to spread the word and facilitate recovery so these symptoms are no longer considered normal for postpartum or aging women.

Crystal studied her Masters of Physical Therapy at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. Prior to this, she completed her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. Crystal has spent over ten years working as a physiotherapist in both the hospital and private care settings. With a special interest in women’s health and having experienced returning to sport as a new mom, she fully understands the need and desire to get back to exercising or running after the kids without having our symptoms slow us down.

In her free time you’ll find Crystal camping with her family near a beach, chasing after her boys or sweating it out at the Crossfit gym.

Corrie is an endlessly positive, empathetic and capable physio who meets her clients where they are at. She is committed to uncovering the root cause of your issue, making sure the journey is a comfortable pace, and ensuring you feel safe and happy along the way.

Corrie’s passion for the human body started with her background as a dancer. Through her own training (and injuries), she grew more interested in movement and anatomy and the body’s resiliency. This led to her completing her Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology in Edmonton, AB, and then on to her Master’s of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia in 2016.

In addition to post-graduate education in pelvic health she is also trained in the Integrated Systems Model (ISM), an advanced clinical reasoning training that better puts your pelvic symptoms into the context of your whole body. This is particularly useful for people who have tried basic pelvic floor exercises and are not seeing results.

When not at work, you can find Corrie out for a run, playing in the sand at a local beach with her son, or in the kitchen diligently attempting a new recipe (likely one that’s decadent and sweet).

Loves to work with: C-section Rehab, Diastasis Recti, Prolapse, Prenatal Education and Pelvic Floor Prep

Emilie’s passion for women’s health began from her own experiences with pelvic pain and endometriosis. Working as a personal trainer, she specialized in pre/postpartum fitness and many of her clients told her about their common pelvic floor symptoms, such as incontinence, painful sex or pelvic organ prolapse, but very few of them knew that these symptoms were treatable. When Emilie decided to pursue physiotherapy as a career, she was motivated to work in women’s health to bring more awareness to these issues and improve access to treatments.

Emilie is passionate about working with clients from all areas of pelvic rehab with a special interest in treating pelvic pain conditions and getting postpartum clients back to sport and activity. Her treatment approach uses a combination of manual therapy, soft tissue work, exercise prescription and education to help my clients achieve their best outcomes. Emilie treats you as a whole person not just a pelvis - she want to hear your story and work with you to help you reach your individual goals!

Emilie studied her Masters of Physical Therapy at UBC in Vancouver. Prior to becoming a physiotherapist, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Hispanic Studies at the University of Victoria in 2017, worked as a whale watching naturalist and captain, and ran a personal training business. On her days off you can find her hiking, biking, camping, taking photos, or at home on the couch watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer re-runs.

Donyne has first-hand experience with postpartum back and pelvic pain. After the birth of her son she struggled with her assigned physiotherapy exercises and only saw significant improvement once she started to learn the why and how of those exercises so that she could get creative with incorporating it into her daily routine.

Energized by what she learned, she started coaching other moms, in person and online, to help them find strength and stability in postpartum recovery.

Donyne employs a whole body-and-life approach, working with clients to understand and overcome barriers to healthy movement. She also works to find her clients’ clearest motivations, so the exercise is connected to their actual life and goals.

When she isn’t helping clients or trying to learn Physics 12, you can find her swimming in the river, gardening, napping with her cats, or making delicious food with her friends and family.
